'Gold' handles for handbiker Mitch Valize
Born in Heerlen (1995) with a defect in his left leg, Mitch Valize studied exercise science at Maastricht University and is now a professional handbiker.
"The biggest difference is in the smallest detail," Mitch says of his bike and riding technique. His handbike is crucial to winning awards and requires constant investment. Handbiking, similar to Formula 1, combines physical fitness with technical know-how, where innovations are essential.
An example is the handles made at CHILL, based on its handprint and made of a new, lighter and better material than that of its competitors. Keep innovating is key!

Day of Circularity
As part of our annual program for secondary schools, we organize Circularity Day several times a year!
On these days, over 100 high school students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge about sustainability and circularity in an exciting and interactive way. They take part in inspiring workshops, engage with experts during roundtable discussions and try to escape from a challenging escape room, all with a focus on the circular challenges of today and tomorrow. In addition, they discover various advanced technical courses, giving them a better idea of their future study and career options.
Greenholds, circular climbing handles
The world's first recyclable climbing grips are a reality. These grips are produced with raw materials from waste, which is an important step toward sustainability within the climbing world.
The Greenholds grips are designed with attention to quality, grip and ease of use, making them an addition for climbing and bouldering centers that need new grips on a regular basis. Because they are made from 100% recycled nylon, they help reduce waste and promote a more circular economy.
1001 ideas festival
Every year at CHILL we organize a fantastic festival for schoolchildren from 16 years old and students, perfect to link to the profile paper! During this two-day event, they get to work on challenging questions from companies, governments or individuals. From the 1001 solutions, each group will choose one brilliant solution to present to a professional jury. The best ideas will get the chance to be developed into a prototype under the guidance of experts. In addition to valuable knowledge, participants develop essential skills such as collaboration, creative thinking, pitching and presentation.
A 2023 success story is "Arthur the Waste Hero," an initiative to encourage children to avoid waste and recycle. This festival is a unique opportunity to contribute to a sustainable future with passion and creativity!
Embrace your career journey
The future belongs to the youth, and young people bring immense value to the business world. Through embracing your career journey, together with Keyport regio, we connect education and business. Students (vmbo, havo, vwo) do a three-day internship at a Limburg company and work on an assignment on material and energy transition, guided by a college student. At the end, they present their solution.
Experience Your Career helps young people connect with businesses early and supports their future orientation, while retaining talent in the region. CHILL and Keyport actively seek companies willing to share issues so that students discover their immediate environment and opportunities. Since its inception, more than 500 apprentices and 50 companies have participated. And we are determined to reach many more participants as we look to roll out the program throughout Limburg!
